Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Alfredo Angulo Announced For December 1 Showtime TV Card
After being out of action for more than a year, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is ready to jump back into the ring.
Showtime announced that Chavez will fight Alfredo Angulo in a super middleweight bout on December 1. That fight will serve as the co-main event to a Showtime-televised card that will be the lead-in to the pay-per-view event headlined by Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury. The main event of the television card is a WBC light heavyweight title fight between Adonis Stevenson and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Chavez, the son of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, has not fought since losing a wide unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez in May 2017. Chavez previously held the WBC middleweight title but lost it to Sergio Martinez in 2012. After that loss, Chavez had not fought for a world title, winning four of his last six fights.
Angulo, a former interim WBO junior middleweight champion, fought Alvarez on pay-per-view in 2014. Angulo lost the fight by 10th round TKO and has yet to fight for a title since then. Since the start of 2011, Angulo has a 5-6 record in fights, last competing in May when he lost a split decision to Sergio Mora.
The televised card will start at 6:45 p.m. ET on December 1 with the pay-per-view starting at 9 p.m. ET. Fightful will have full coverage of the pay-per-view card, taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
