Juan Francisco Estrada Signs Promotional Deal With Matchroom Boxing
WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada is heading to Matchroom Boxing.
The Mexican champion has signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Zanfer Promotions that would have him fight on DAZN in the United States. Estrada’s first fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner will be announced next week.
Speaking about the news of the signing, Estrada said he is elated to be a part of the Matchroom roster.
“I’m very excited to be fighting again on DAZN where I won the WBC title. I look forward to defending my title for Mexico and for all my fans and hopefully I can soon unify titles with the other champions of the division. I’m very motivated being champion once again and I’m ready to show that I’m a champion to be reckoned with,” Estrada said.
The 29-year-old Estrada first won the WBC title, his third world title, after winning a 12-round decision against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on April 26 in a rematch of their February 2018 slugfest. Estrada previously said he intended to fight some of the other champions at 115 pounds and a recent report stated that the priority is to eventually have Estrada fight IBF titleholder Jerwin Ancajas, who fights on ESPN under the Top Rank banner. There is no guarantee, however, the unification is happening next or even in 2019 for that matter.
Although no details of Estrada’s next fight weren’t announced, a prior report said Estrada could defend his title in Mexico on August 24. Estrada is just the latest super flyweight signing for Matchroom Boxing, which already has the likes of WBA champion Kal Yafai and Sor Rungvisai.
