Josh Kelly vs. Ray Robinson Added To Joshua-Ruiz Undercard
Another title fight has been added to the Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. undercard.
Matchroom Boxing announced that Josh Kelly will defend his WBA International welterweight title against Ray Robinson on June 1 at Madison Square Garden. The fight will be part of the undercard for Joshua vs. Ruiz with the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles on the line.
Kelly will be fighting in the United States for the first time in his pro career after fighting in the United Kingdom for his first nine pro bouts. The undefeated Kelly last defended the WBA International title with a dominant 10-round decision against Przemyslaw Runowski at the O2 Arena back on April 20. Kelly is currently ranked No. 9 by the WBA at 147 pounds.
Robinson, a 33-year-old fighter from Philadelphia, has not won a fight since 2017, but is coming off a majority draw against Egidijus Kavaliauskas, the No. 1 contender to the WBO welterweight world title, back in March. Robinson once held the NABO welterweight title and is ranked No. 13 by the WBC at that weight class.
The announcement adds another title bout to a growing list of fights taking part on the June 1 show. Aside from the main event, the card will also feature Katie Taylor vs. Delfine Persoon for the undisputed women’s lightweight title. Also announced for the undercard is a WBO International junior welterweight title bout between Chris Algieri and Tommy Coyle. The card will be streamed on DAZN and Fightful will have live coverage of the event.
