Jose Ramirez Dominates Amir Imam To Win WBC Junior Welterweight Title

The third world title at 140 pounds that was vacated by Terence Crawford has a new titleholder in Jose Ramirez.

Ramirez won his first world title with a wide unanimous decision win over Amir Imam to win the vacant WBC junior welterweight title (115-113, 117-111, 120-108). The fight took place at Madison Square Garden on a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card.

The fight started with Ramirez bringing the fight up close to Imam. Ramirez landed dozens of hard punches to Imam's face, causing to swell a bit in the first few rounds. Imam managed to land a couple of right uppercuts that split Ramirez's defense whenever Ramirez leaned forward towards Imam.

Imam tried to fight back, and on a few occasions, managed to connect on a few hard punches that seemed to rock Ramirez. Unfortunately for Imam, those moments where he got the upper hand were few and far in between. Ramirez's right hook pushed Imam to the ropes throughout the fight, even causing Imam's eye to swell up late in the fight.

According to CompuBox, Ramirez connected on 282 of 799 total punches (35 percent) while Imam landed 189 of 653 total punches (29 percent). In the power punches category, Ramirez had a huge advantage, outlanding Imam 228 to 108.

With the win, Ramirez not only holds the title but also has probable date with interim WBC champion Regis Prograis later this year. Prograis won the title by knocking out former unified junior welterweight champion Julius Indongo inside two rounds on a recent Showtime-televised card from South Dakota.
