Joe Joyce, Karlos Balderas, Efe Ajagba, Other Prospects Announced For September 30 PBC Card
A number of top prospects and a former title challenger will make up the undercard for the September 30 card headlined by Victor Ortiz vs. John Molina Jr.
Among the names that was announced for the undercard is undefeated featherweight fighter Brandon Figueroa. Figueroa, a 16-0 21-year-old prospect, will take on Oscar Escandon who will be fighting in his second fight since unsuccessfully challenging for Gary Russell Jr.’s WBC featherweight title this past May.
Also announced for the undercard is British prospect Joe Joyce, who recently started training with Abel Sanchez and is promoted by Richard Schaefer’s Ringstar Sports. Joyce won the Commonwealth heavyweight title back in May with a second-round knockout victory over Lenroy Thomas and will face former WBA Intercontinental cruiserweight champion and 29-fight veteran Iago Kiladze.
Karlos Balderas and Efe Ajagba, both of whom competed in the 2016 Olympics, are also announced to be on the show, but neither have an opponent as of this point. Balderas most recently fought on the July 28 Showtime boxing card from Los Angeles when he knocked out Giovanni Caro. Ajagba, a Nigerian heavyweight prospect, appeared on the August 24 PBC card on FS1, but never really threw a punch in his fight as his opponent, Curtis Harper, walked out of the ring as soon as the bell sounded to start the fight. As a result, Ajagba was named the winner by disqualification and improved his pro record to 6-0.
The main event, a welterweight bout between Ortiz and Molina, will be televised on FS1 live from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
