Jesus Rojas: I Want A Rematch Against Xu Can
Jesus Rojas’ early Fight of the Year candidate against Xu Can resulted in the Puerto Rican losing his world title and Rojas wants a rematch.
After Rojas lost to Can in the co-main event of a Golden Boy Promotions card from Houston, Texas, Rojas said he disagreed with the three judges who scored the fight in favor of the new WBA “Regular” featherweight champion and wanted a rematch. Can won the title by unanimous decision (117-111, 118-110, 116-112) to become the third Chinese-born boxer in history to win a major pro boxing world title.
“I don’t feel the decision was correct. I don’t know what to say. I’m surprised. I spoke to Golden Boy Promotions, and I want the rematch. I think we worked well, used my jab and I want the fight. Of course I want the rematch,” Rojas said.
The fight was an action-packed bout that featured more than 2,500 total punches being thrown between the two. Rojas is now on a two-fight losing streak and had yet to successfully defend his “Regular” title since being elevated from interim titleholder last year. After the fight, Can was asked about potentially fighting WBA “Super” champion Leo Santa Cruz and Can said he would be open to have that fight, but Can might have to wait a while before getting that fight as Santa Cruz is defending his title in February.
Fightful did a recap of that fight, which can be seen below, as well as review the main event of that DAZN card, Jaime Munguia vs. Takeshi Inoue, and the January 26 PBC on Fox card from the Barclays Center.
