Jessie Vargas Aiming For Fight Against Jaime Munguia

Soon after winning his junior middleweight debut, Jessie Vargas is already looking for a title opportunity and is aiming for Jaime Munguia’s WBO belt.

Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Vargas said he would love a crack at Munguia for a shot to become a three-division world champion. Vargas recently defeated former world champion Humberto Soto on April 26 on a DAZN card from California in what was an action-packed fight that culminated with Vargas stopping Soto in the sixth round.

Seeing as how his fight against Soto was met with great reactions about the action the two fighters had, Vargas believes he can give Munguia a thrilling matchup. Munguia, no stranger to fighting in title bouts with exciting moments, has made four successful title defenses, most recently defending the title against Dennis Hogan in Mexico.

“I think it would be a good fight, he needs a rival that can bring a spectacle into a fight and that’s me. I have the experience but people also know that there are no boring fights with me. As such, I am pretty sure that we can fill any arena in Mexico or in the United States,” Vargas said in Spanish.

Vargas has held world titles at junior welterweight and welterweight and is unbeaten in his last four fights. Whether or not Vargas will ever get to fight Munguia for the WBO title remains to be seen as Munguia has stated in the past that he plans to eventually move up in weight and compete at 160 pounds.
