Jessica McCaskill Signs With Matchroom Boxing, To Defend Titles Against Victoria Bustos
After previously working with Eddie Hearn and making history along the way, Jessica McCaskill has extended her partnership with Matchroom Boxing.
McCaskill, the undisputed welterweight champion of the world, has signed a long-term deal with Hearn and Matchroom. It was also announced that she will be back in action on December 4, defending the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring Welterweight Titles against Victoria Bustos.
The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Devin Haney will be defending the WBC Lightweight Title against Joseph Diaz Jr. in the main event.
“Matchroom gave me a shot on the big stage, and I want to finish my career them – I’m excited!” said McCaskill. “We have a tough test in front of us in Victoria, she’s a great fighter and she’s been in with everyone, but I am confident I will keep my belts and we’ll move on to more great fights in 2022.”
An investment banker while boxing, McCaskill made her pro debut in 2015. A 2010 Golden Gloves winner, “CasKILLA” would go 5-2 to start her career, losing to Katie Taylor for the WBA Lightweight Title in 2017. She then went on a five-fight win streak, winning the WBC and WBA Super-Lightweight Titles against Erica Farias and Anahi Ester Sanchez.
McCaskill would beat Cecilia Braekhus in 2020 in the streets of Oklahoma to become the undisputed welterweight champion. The loss ended a 36-fight win streak and a lengthy title reign for Braekhus. She would beat Braekhus in a rematch back in March.
“Jessica has been a revelation since she travelled to the UK to face Katie Taylor in December 2017,” said Eddie Hearn. “She’s stepped up to face all-comers and with grit, determination and skill she’s a two-weight World champion – and she’s not done yet. There are plenty of big fights out there for Jess, starting in Las Vegas against Victoria who always lays it all on the line when she fights.”
Bustos is a former IBF Lightweight Champion. Making her debut in 2011, Bustos won the title in 2013. She would lose the title to Taylor in 2018, and during her run, Bustos would compete for welterweight gold. The 32-year-old would challenge and lose to Braekhus in 2020, and her last fight was a win against Yamila Esther Reynoso in October.
Also on the undercard will be Filip Hrgovic defending the IBF Intercontinental Title against Scott Alexander, Montana Love v. Carlos Diaz, Austin Williams v. Quatavious Cash, and Alexis Espino v. Rodolfo Gomez Jr.
