Jessica McCaskill: I Want To Be Undisputed Champion

Despite losing her first world title fight in late 2017, Jessica McCaskill is on the fast track to becoming a unified champion in just her ninth pro bout.

McCaskill, the current WBC junior welterweight champion, is just days away from her unification fight against WBA champion Anahi Sanchez and is more than ready to elevate her career. In a press release, McCaskill talked about her trainer Rick Ramos knew she would be ready for big fights in a short amount of time and now that she is one win away from becoming a unified champion, she aims to become the first undisputed champion in the division’s history.

“Rick said that we would be on a fast pace from day one, this will be my ninth fight and it’s a unification – that’s kind of crazy but we’re going to go with the flow and I am ready for this. It’s like clockwork in the gym and it gives me an advantage as my mind is always ready to fight. I’m always hungry for something because I don’t do this for nothing – I want the belts, I want the big fights, I want to unify and I want to be undisputed,” McCaskill said.

The 34-year-old McCaskill recovered from a loss to Katie Taylor with the WBA lightweight title on the line in 2017 and won the WBC junior welterweight title last year in Chicago. Since then, McCaskill’s aim was to unify titles and hopes to do so against Sanchez, who has won titles in four different weight classes.

The title unification will be on the DAZN undercard on May 25 from the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The card will be headlined by a lightweight matchup between Devin Haney and Antonio Moran.
