Jermell Charlo On Charlo Twins’ Success: “We’re Jolts Of Lightning For This Sport”

Jermall and Jermell Charlo, also known to boxing fans as the Charlo Twins, are one of the more dynamic duos in the sport and Jermell said he and his brother are only getting started.

In a press conference to promote his upcoming junior middleweight world title defense in Los Angeles, Jermell said the Charlo Twins are “jolts of lightning” in the sport of boxing and that after Jermall wrapped up two impressive performances in Brooklyn, it is Jermell’s turn to take over the sport in Los Angeles.

“Our careers and our records are growing and you’re getting to see more of the Charlos. We’re jolts of lightning for this sport. We’re giving people real problems. We just get in there and do what we do. We’re ready to keep putting on shows for everyone. My brother just did his thing in Brooklyn and now we’re taking it to the West Coast,” Jermell said.

Jermell will defend his WBC junior middleweight world title when he faces off against Austin Trout on June 9 at the Staples Center. That fight will serve as the co-feature bout to the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares fight for the WBA featherweight title with both fights being televised on Showtime. Trout has experience fighting a Charlo twin as he previously lost to Jermall in 2016 with the IBF 154-pound title on the line. Trout would become the first professional boxer to have ever boxed against both Charlo twins.

Jermall, a former world champion at 154 pounds, moved up in weight last year to contend for a middleweight world title. Jermall became the mandatory challenger for Gennady Golovkin‘s WBC middleweight title with a win over Jorge Sebastian Heiland at the Barclays Center last summer. He then followed it up with a knockout win over Hugo Centeno Jr. last April to win the interim WBC middleweight title.
