Jermall And Jermell Charlo To Fight On December PBC On FOX Card
The Charlo Twins are ready to take over boxing with their respective next fight taking place on FOX.
Jermall and Jermell Charlo, two of the top middleweight and junior middleweight boxers, respectively, will compete in two separate fights on the December 22 Premier Boxing Champions card on FOX. Jermall, the interim WBC middleweight champion, will fight former title challenger Willie Monroe Jr. while Jermell, the WBC junior middleweight champion, will defend his title against Tony Harrison.
The event will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, marking the sixth time the venue has had a major boxing card in 2018. The fight card is also the first in PBC’s long-term broadcast extension with FOX, who is prioritizing bigger boxing events on the network starting with the December card.
This will be the second time Jermall has fought this year and it is also the second time he has fought at the Barclays Center. Jermall won the interim WBC title back in April when he knocked Hugo Centeno Jr. out in the second round of their fight. Jermall will be facing Monroe, who has won his last two fights since losing a wide unanimous decision to then-WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders in 2017.
Jermell has been the WBC champion at 154 pounds since May 2016, making three title defenses. Charlo last fought in June when he defeated Austin Trout on Showtime by majority decision. Harrison, on the other hand, is looking for his first world title. Harrison unsuccessfully challenged for the IBF junior middleweight title in February 2017 when he stopped by Jarrett Hurd in the ninth round of their fight. Since that loss, Harrison has won his last three fights, including a split decision against Ishe Smith this past May.
A press conference to formally announce the two fights is scheduled for October 25. The main event has not been decided as the two brothers will actually decide that on a coin flip at the opening press conference.
