Jason Quigley vs. Tureano Johnson Set For GBxDAZN Main Event On July 18
Golden Boy Promotions is ready to roll out a GBxDAZN card in July featuring a middleweight contest in the main event.
Jason Quigley and Tureano Johnson will headline a card at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California on July 18. The fight will be viewable on Facebook Watch as are all GBxDAZN events.
Quigley, an unbeaten middleweight from Ireland, has won all 16 of his pro bouts with his most recent one taking place in March at the Copper Box Arena in London. In that fight, Quigley stopped Mathias Eklund in the second round. Quigley is ranked No. 5 by the WBC, No. 8 by the WBA and No. 15 by the IBF at middleweight.
“For me, it’s just another fight. Another stepping stone, another hurdle. It’s time for me to jump over him and on to the next one,” Quigley said after the announcement was made.
Johnson has won a number of regional titles throughout his career, but has not won a fight since March 2017. Johnson fought Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a title eliminator for the IBF middleweight title in 2017 but Johnson was stopped in the final round. Since then, Johnson has only fought once, an eight-round split draw against Fernando Castaneda this past February on the undercard of a DAZN card from Indio, California.
The 35-year-old Johnson was supposed to fight David Lemieux last December in New York, but the fight fell through the day before as Lemieux suffered from severe dehydration as part of his weight cut.
