Jaime Munguia, Jesus Rojas To Defend Titles On January DAZN Card In Houston
DAZN is keeping itself busy with boxing cards in the United States in January 2019.
A week after DAZN broadcasts a Matchroom Boxing USA card from the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, DAZN comes to Houston for a Golden Boy Promotions card. In the main event of the card, taking place at the Toyota Center on January 26, Jaime Munguia is defending his WBO junior middleweight title against Takeshi Inoue.
Although DAZN announced the fight during the December 15 broadcast of Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding, the fight had been official for some time now. Munguia will be making his third world title defense in the span of less than eight months. After winning the title against Sadam Ali on an HBO card in New York. Munguia would spend the rest of the year defending his belt against former champion Liam Smith and Canadian contender Brandon Cook.
Inoue is an undefeated boxer from Japan who won the OPBF and WBO Asia Pacific titles at 154 pounds in late 2017. Inoue is also a former Japanese national junior middleweight champion and has not fought since winning a unanimous decision against Yuki Nonaka back in April.
Another title fight was announced for the January 26 card. The previously reported WBA “regular” featherweight title fight between titleholder Jesus Rojas and Chinese fighter Can Xu was also announced for the card.
Rojas has held the “regular” version of the WBA featherweight throughout most of the second half of 2018 after being elevated from interim title challenger. In Rojas’ last fight in the ring, he lost a non-title bout against Joseph Diaz after Diaz missed weight the day before.
