Jaime Munguia Easily Takes Down Brandon Cook To Retain WBO Junior Middleweight Title

It was another day at the office for WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia, as the 21-year-old champion got another big knockout victory.

In the co-main event of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 2 card, Munguia dominated Brandon Cook, knocking him down once before hurting him to the point referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight.

Munguia did not have any trouble taking down Cook, who is the latest challenger to get hurt by Munguia’s extremely heavy hands early on. Munguia started the fight by trapping Cook in a corner towards the end of the first round and hurt Cook, almost knocking him down. Cook never recovered from that early onslaught and ultimately was unable to keep fighting shortly afterwards.

Below is an excerpt of Fightful’s live coverage of the fight.

Round 3: Cook starts throwing hooks to the body, but Munguia is unaffected by them. Munguia knocks down Cook, but Munguia continues dominating until Tony Weeks puts a stop to the contest.

Official Result: Jaime Munguia defeated Brandon Cook by TKO, round 3, 1:03 to retain the WBO junior middleweight title

This was Munguia’s second title defense in the span of a couple of months. Munguia originally won the title back in May when he knocked out then-champion Sadam Ali in New York. The young champion then proceeded to defeat mandatory challenger Liam Smith by unanimous decision back in July, improving his record to 31-0 with 26 knockout victories.
