Indian Boxing Star Vijender Singh Signs With Top Rank
Top Rank has signed Indian boxing star and rising super middleweight Vijender Singh.
The company announced via a press release that Singh has signed a multi-year promotional contract to have him start fighting in the United States and attempt to become the first Indian boxer to win a world championship in the paid ranks. Singh is undefeated as a pro, winning all 10 bouts and seven of them via knockout, and won an Olympic bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics.
In the press release, Singh explained his reasoning to sign with Top Rank which was to work with a company that knows how to develop boxers into superstars.
“I am really excited to be on board with Bob Arum and Top Rank,” Singh said. “I have always wanted to work with someone who is the best in the business, and I know Top Rank has been the driving force behind boxing’s biggest superstars, including Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, and Miguel Cotto. I am eagerly waiting a date for my U.S. debut to take on the world and keep the Indian flag on the world boxing map fluttering high. I also want to thank Mr. Neerav Tomar and IOS Boxing Promotions for helping get me to this point of my professional career, and I look forward to working with Top Rank.”
Singh last fought in 2017, scoring a shutout unanimous decision victory over Ernest Amuzu. The 33-year-old Singh has held the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title since July 2016 and the WBO Oriental title since August 2017. Since making his pro debut in 2015, Singh has fought in England, Ireland and India and is expected to make his U.S. debut with Top Rank in early 2019.
