IBF Orders Lightweight And Junior Lightweight World Title Eliminators
The IBF has recently ordered a pair of world title eliminators for their lightweight and junior lightweight divisions.
The organization has ordered Richard Commey vs. Alejandro Luna and Tevin Farmer vs. Francisco Fonseca as lightweight and junior lightweight title eliminators, respectively. All four parties must be able to negotiate their fights by August 4, or else a purse bid would be ordered for the fights that has not signed a fight contract.
Commey has come close to the title last year when he lost to Robert Easter Jr. He then lost a title eliminator to Denis Shafikov three months later. Commey recently signed with New York boxing promoter Lou DiBella.
Luna, an undefeated 25-year-old, got a big win back in April when he defeated Andrey Klimov via unanimous decision. Luna is a former interim WBC Youth lightweight titleholder.
Farmer, the current NABF junior lightweight champion, has won his last 18 fights, last losing all the way back in 2012. He last fought Arturo Santos Reyes back in April, winning via unanimous decision.
Fonseca has stopped seven of his last eight opponents, winning the vacant IBF Intercontinental junior lightweight title during that span. Fonseca is coming off a third-round win over Eliecer Lanzas back in late March. The current IBF lightweight and junior lightweight champions are Easter and Gervonta Davis, who is defending his title against an opponent to be named on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor pay-per-view card.
