Hughie Fury Gets Opponent For May 25 Fight In Manchester
Hughie Fury’s opponent for his return fight has been announced.
The former world title challenger will take on unbeaten Canadian fighter Chris Norrad on May 25 on a boxing card in Manchester, England. The fight will mark Fury’s first since October 2018.
The 24-year-old Fury is coming off a loss to Kubrat Pulev in Bulgaria with a spot as the mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title on the line. Fury has now lost two of his last three fights with his other defeat being a majority decision loss to Joseph Parker in 2017 for the WBO heavyweight title. Before losing to Parker, Fury was on a 20-fight win streak and held the WBO Intercontinental title. Fury currently sits in at No. 14 in the IBF heavyweight rankings.
Fury was also the BBBofC British heavyweight champion but would vacate the belt a couple of months ago due to injuries that have kept him out of the ring. Since the title was vacated, the BBBofC ordered Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois to fight for the title, though the fight has yet to be announced.
Norrad has won all 17 of his pro bouts since making his debut back in 2009. The 35-year-old Norrad won eight of his 17 fights by knockout and last fought on May 4 when he won a six-round decision against Abraham Pascual in Canada. Prior to that fight, Norrad’s last fight took place on May 5, 2018.
Fury’s cousin is former WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who is making his Top Rank Boxing debut against Tom Schwarz on June 15 in Las Vegas.
