Hiroto Kyoguchi To Defend WBA Light Flyweight Title On June 19
WBA light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi’s first title defense is set.
Kyoguchi will defend his title against Tanawat Nakook on June 19 in Japan. The fight will take part on the undercard of the WBO super flyweight title bout between Aston Palicte and Donnie Nietes.
As mentioned, this will be Kyoguchi’s first fight since winning the WBA 108-pound title last December when he stopped former unified champion Hekkie Budler in Macau, China. Kyoguchi previously held the IBF minimumweight title from 2017 to 2018, capturing the belt in his eighth pro bout and successfully defending the title twice before moving up in weight.
Nakoon, ranked No. 11 by the WBA, has won all 11 of his pro bouts, five of which were from inside the distance. Nakoon has already collected a number of regional titles throughout his short career, including the WBC Asian Boxing Council minimumweight title and OPBF Silver light flyweight title. The 26-year-old Nakoon last fought in February when he stopped Crison Omayao in the fourth round of their bout which took place in Bangkok, Thailand.
The fight joins a loaded card that features at least three world title fights. Aside from the aforementioned two title bouts, there is a third world title fight taking place at the event. Also on the undercard is a fight for the vacant WBO Female super flyweight title between Miyo Yoshida and Casey Morton. The title was last held by Amanda Serrano, who won the belt last January, but no longer appears as champion when looking at the WBO rankings.
