HBO Planning December 8 Boxing Card With “Chocolatito” And Cecilia Braekhus

Although HBO Boxing is essentially close to being virtually non-existent starting in 2019, the network is loading up on a couple of more broadcasts past October 27.

Previously announced was the November 24 HBO boxing card broadcast from Atlantic City with Dmitry Bivol fighting, but now there is another card being planned before the end of the year. Although it has not been formally announced, HBO plans to have its final event of 2018 on December 8 at a venue to be determined at a later date, according to promoter Tom Loeffler, who spoke to BoxingScene.com.

In that planned December 8 HBO Boxing card, undisputed women’s welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus and former world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will be featured. Opponents for either of those fighters are yet to be announced.

Braekhus made history on May 5 by winning the first-ever live women’s boxing fight to be aired on HBO. She defeated Kali Reis in the co-main event fight of Gennady Golovkin’s second-round knockout win over Vanes Martirosyan. Braekhus would go to Russia in July to win a unanimous decision against Inna Sagaydakovskaya on the undercard of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament finals.

As for Gonzalez, he returned to the ring on September 15 when he defeated Moises Fuentes with a fifth-round TKO on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez’s majority decision win over Golovkin. It was Gonzalez’s first fight since losing a rematch against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in 2017 and Gonzalez’s first win since September 2016 when he defeated Carlos Cuadras.
