Golden Boy Promotions Reserve T-Mobile Arena For May 4, 2019 DAZN Show
While we are still months away from knowing what the future holds for Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in regards to a third fight, but promoters are taking measures to at least secure an opportunity to get a third fight for next May.
Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Alvarez, and GGG Promotions have secured the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a boxing card on May 4, 2019. According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the event would be streamed on the DAZN platform. Below are details from the commission’s website.
Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions reserved T-Mobile Arena for May 4, 2019 for a DAZN card. While Canelo vs. GGG 3 could be in play, it’s not a guarantee that it will happen or even that GGG signed with DAZN. Although the venue has been reserved for a DAZN card, there is no guarantee that a third fight would even happen. The main reason is that Golovkin is currently a free agent and has been receiving offers not just from DAZN, but also Premier Boxing Champions who broadcast fights on FOX and Showtime and from Top Rank who broadcasts fights on ESPN platforms.
The T-Mobile Arena was the host venue for the first two fights between the two middleweight stars, considered a commercial and critical success on pay-per-view in 2017 and 2018. Alvarez and Golovkin fought to a draw in their 2017 encounter while Alvarez emerged victorious this past September in the rematch. It was the last fight in both fighters’ HBO contracts with Alvarez eventually signing an 11-fight, $365 million contract to fight on DAZN.
