Gennady Golovkin: We Need Third Canelo Fight To Have A Definitive Conclusion
Gennady Golovkin is happy with his new deal fighting on DAZN and is hoping for a potential third fight against Canelo Alvarez.
During a recent press conference, Golovkin spoke about signing a six-fight, three-year deal to fight on DAZN and said he is very happy to be working with the broadcast platform. Golovkin added that he is excited to be facing unbeaten contender Steve Rolls in the Kazakh’s DAZN debut on June 1.
“I feel very comfortable right now. I have six fights with DAZN now and I am excited to face Steve Rolls. The big fights are important to me and titles don’t matter to me as much as being in the biggest fights,” Golovkin said.
Speaking of those big fights, one that is on many pundits’ minds is a potential third fight against Alvarez. With both men competing on DAZN after signing multi-year broadcast deals, the possibility for a third fight against the unified middleweight champion is there.
The first fight between the two middleweight stars ended is a controversial split draw in 2017, but Alvarez ended up winning the rematch in September 2018. Golovkin has stated in the past that he wants a third fight against Alvarez.
“Everyone wants to see that fight. I want that fight, we want that fight. Everyone understands why it is important that the third fight happens so that we can have a definitive conclusion,” Golovkin said.
Golovkin vs. Rolls will headline a DAZN card from Madison Square Garden on June 1.
