Ganigan Lopez And Pedro Guevara Set For World Light Flyweight Title Match For October
WBC light flyweight champion Ganigan Lopez is set to make his second defense of his title against a familiar foe — fellow countryman Pedro Guevara.
Promociones del Pueblo announced that the match will take place on October 25 in Guevara's hometown of Mazatlan, Mexico.
Lopez said that he is ecstatic to have another chance at Guevara and to be the champion and to face him in Guevara's hometown.
"When I was offered the fight with Guevara, I, of course, accepted without hesitation," Lopez said. "I do not mind coming to Guevara's home to defend my championship because I'm at my best. I really hope to fight the best Pedro Guevara. The fans deserve a great fight. I am confident this will also be a big fight between two brave Mexican warriors."
The last time both men met in the ring, Guevara was the 108-pound champion and defeated Lopez via unanimous decision on July 4, 2015. Guevara, however, lost the title to Japan's Yu Kimura in his next fight and Kimura himself lost the title to Lopez, who has held the title ever since then.
Guevara was a former WBC Silver Light Flyweight Champion and NABF Light Flyweight Champion. Lopez is a former WBC International Light Flyweight Champion.
