Filip Hrgovic To Fight Gregory Corbin On Usyk vs. Takam Undercard

Filip Hrgovic’s next opponent has been revealed.

The highly-touted heavyweight prospect will take on once-beaten fighter Gregory Corbin on May 25 on the undercard of a Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN live from the MGM National Harbor in Maryland.

Hrgovic, a bronze medalist from the 2016 Olympics, has won all seven of his pro fights with five of those wins coming by knockout. Despite only fighting seven times as a professional boxer, Hrgovic has already gotten himself ranked in the top 15 by the WBA (No. 8), IBF (No. 12). Hrgovic signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Team Sauerland back in February.

The 26-year-old Hrgovic won the WBC International heavyweight title in September 2018 with a third-round knockout win over Amir Mansour. In his last fight, which took place on December 8 in his home country of Croatia, Hrgovic won an eight-round unanimous decision against former world title challenger. Kevin Johnson. No date or venue was set for Hrgovic’s first fight under his new deal.

Before 2019, Corbin was not a household name in the heavyweight division, but got his big break by fighting on the FS1-televised prelim card of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia fight. Corbin, who sports a 15-1 record, fought former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin but Corbin got himself disqualified in the eighth round for repeatedly hitting low blows on Martin.

The main event of the DAZN card is the heavyweight debut of former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk as he takes on former title challenger Carlos Takam.
