Fight-Size Boxing Update: Jamel Herring Wants To Unify, Delfine Persoon Wins Title, Naoya Inoue
Here’s your fight-size boxing update for November 11, 2019:
– In the video at the top of the page, WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring wants a unification bout after a win over Lamont Roach Jr. on November 9.
– Joe Joyce vs. Marco Huck for the EBU European heavyweight title has had some trouble being finalized after Huck’s company “didn’t come up with the money” after previously winning the purse bid to stage the bout.
– Unified WBA and IBF bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue suffered a fractured orbital bone after his World Boxing Super Series finals matchup against Nonito Donaire. Inoue said he would not require surgery to repair either fracture and that he will be reexamined by his doctor in a month to assess his progress. Inoue is set to make his Top Rank debut in the first half of 2020.
– In her first fight since a close decision loss to Katie Taylor in June, Delfine Persoon scored a unanimous decision win against Helen Joseph (97-93, 97-93, 98-92) to win the interim WBA Female super featherweight title.
– ESPN+ will stream an SES card from Germany on November 16 with the main event being Dominic Boesel vs. Sven Fornling for the interim WBA and IBO light heavyweight titles. Also on the card is Mohammed Rabii vs. Jesus Gurrola, Peter Kadiru vs. Pedro Martinez and Stefan Haertel vs. David Zegarra for the WBO Intercontinental super middleweight title.
– A report from ESPN stated that unified WBC and WBO junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez will fight mandatory challenger Viktor Postol on February 1 and take place at a 6,000-seat arena at the Mission Hills Haikou, a golf resort in the Chinese port city of Haikou.
– Former unified light heavyweight champion Andre Ward has stated on SportsCenter that he’s not coming out of retirement to fight Canelo Alvarez.
– A report from Boxing Scene said Tyron Zeuge will not be fighting on November 23 in Germany due to a tooth infection. Zeuge was supposed to face Yusuf Kanguel for the EBU European Union super middleweight title. The card will move forward as planned with Jack Culcay taking on Jama Saidi.
