– A tweet rom Golden Boy Promotions’ official Twitter indicates that only the WBA, IBF, lineal and Ring Magazine middleweight titles will be on the line in the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez September 16 fight. The WBC and IBO titles appear to no longer be up for grabs.
– Jorge Linares vs. Luke Campbell has a date and venue. The fight will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on September 23. That fight will be for the WBA, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine lightweight title.
– WBA interim featherweight champion Claudio Marrero was ordered to face Jesus Rojas in his first defense. The WBA said it notified both camps that they have 30 days to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered to determine who will promote the fight.
– The WBA also ordered “regular” light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly and interim titleholder Dmitry Bivol were ordered to meet in an overdue mandatory fight next. The WBA said it notified both camps that they have 30 days to make a deal or a purse bid will be ordered to determine promotional control of the bout. The news almost all but shuts down any possible rumors of Cleverly defending his title against Badou Jack on the Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view card.
