Orucuta last fought on June 7 in Mexico and was stopped by Jonathan Javier Gonzalez in the 10th round. Orucuta went down to the canvas after the fight and was checked out by medical officials before being sent to the hospital. Less than a week after being sent to the hospital, Orucuta was able to have some movement following surgery.
This was Orucuta’s second straight loss with the first one taking place last September on HBO, dropping a 12-round decision to current WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada. The 33-year-old Orucuta has a 36-6 pro record and challenged for the WBO super flyweight title twice in 2013 and 2014, losing both fights against Omar Narvaez by decision.
