Fedor Chudinov To Fight On WBSS Cruiserweight Finals Undercard
Fedor Chudinov’s quest to get back to fighting for a super middleweight world title will have him fighting on the undercard for the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight finals.
The former world champion will be fighting former title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi as one of the undercard fights for the July 21 WBSS finals in Moscow, Russia. Chudinov’s bout will be one of several major undercard fights for the historic cruiserweight finals which will see the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Murat Gassiev become the first cruiserweight to simultaneously hold the WBA “super,” WBO, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine titles.
Chudinov previously held the WBA “regular” super middleweight title but lost out on the chance to win the WBA “super” title when he was defeated by Tyron Zeuge in 2016. Chudinov got another chance to fight for the “super” title that was vacant shortly afterwards, but Chudinov was stopped by current champion George Groves. Groves is currently set to fight Callum Smith in the WBSS super middleweight finals, scheduled to take place later this year.
Since the loss to Groves in 2017, Chudinov remained in Russia, where he would fight his next three fights. He won all three of his fights, two of which by knockout or stoppage, and captured the WBA International title as well, putting him up at the top spot in the WBA super middleweight rankings.
Mohammedi was a contentder at light heavyweight, but after consecutive knockout losses to then-unified champion Sergey Kovalev and eventual interim WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Mohammedi moved down in weight. Mohammedi is on a three-fight win streak, winning all three of his fights by unanimous decision.
