Erislandy Lara Knocks Out Yuri Foreman To Retain World Title

It’s always a positive when a boxer comes through with promises of knocking out his opponent and Erislandy Lara did just that against Yuri Foreman.

In the first major world title fight of 2017, world light middleweight champion Lara retained his belt by knocking out Foreman early in the fourth round of the bout with an big uppercut up close to Foreman. Foreman took advantage of Lara’s inactivity early in he fight until Foreman fell and the referee called it a knockdown instead of a slip, much to Foreman’s disagreeing to the decision.

This essentially gave Lara the momentum needed to throw more punches until he got the finishing uppercut.

Lara lost to Canelo Alvarez back in 2014 via split decision and in his post-fight interview, Lara said he wants to fight the best and the knockout served as a message to the rest of the division that he is not a boring fighter.

“I just want to fight best in the division,” Lara said. “I want to fight some of the best in the world, Golovkin, Canelo, I want to fight the best.”

Lara has won five straight since the loss to Canelo. Foreman’s surprising title shot comes after fighting, and winning, in just two fights since the start of 2014.
