Eddie Hearn Wants To Make A Joint Show Between Golden Boy Promotions And Matchroom Boxing

For several months, Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing have held separate cards on DAZN, but Eddie Hearn has an interesting proposition.

After Canelo Alvarez, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, and Daniel Jacobs, promoted by Matchroom Boxing, had their middleweight title unification, Hearn spoke of a potential card where all the fights have Matchroom fighters take on fighters from Golden Boy Promotions. It wouldn’t be the first time that there have been inter-promotional fights between both companies on DAZN, but an all-around card under that concept had never been attempted.

“It’s been so good working with Golden Boy and we are on the same platform. I want to get a card together with Oscar [De La Hoya], Eric [Gomez], Bernard [Hopkins] where all their guys take on each other… I really feel like we can put on seven or eight fights, Matchroom vs. Golden Boy and it would be a lot of fun. It would be a lot of competition. We’re all competitors,” Hearn said in the Canelo vs. Jacobs post-fight press conference.

Hearn listed the following fights that could be in play should this hypothetical Golden Boy Promotions vs. Matchroom Boxing card ever become a reality, according to Hearn:

  • Jaime Munguia vs. Jessie Vargas: WBO junior middleweight title fight
  • Tevin Farmer vs. Joseph Diaz Jr.: IBF super featherweight title fight
  • Ryan Garcia vs. Martin Joseph Ward

Vargas has already stated his interest in facing Munguia for the WBO junior middleweight title and during the Canelo vs. Jacobs undercard press conference, Farmer and Diaz had a heated confrontation between one another. After Diaz won his fight against Freddy Fonseca on May 4 to win the WBA Gold title, Diaz called out Farmer in a post-fight interview to fight him.

The full press conference can be seen in the video at the top of the page.
