Eddie Hearn Talks Potential Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tony Bellew Fight

Matchroom Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn has given an update to the negotiations for a potential fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tony Bellew.

Hearn spoke with Tha Boxing Voice and said negotiations for the bout are underway and if the fight were to take place, it would get signed for November 20.

One aspect of the fight would be the weight class being contested. Hearn confirmed the fight would be at cruiserweight where Usyk’s undisputed WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine titles would be on the line.

“They want that fight and when Usyk called him out in the World Boxing Super Series, Tony went like, ‘Give me Usyk.’ I said, ‘Tony, you don’t need that.’ I said if we were making it at heavyweight and [Bellew] said, ‘No, I want all those belts.’ Bellew wants to be the undisputed champion, he wants to win the Ring Magazine belt. We’re doing it on November 10. I think if this fight is going to happen, it’ll get signed in the next two weeks,” Hearn said.

Hearn also added that he’s not much of a fan of Bellew taking that fight, but realized that Bellew is looking to leave his legacy in the ring as a pound-for-pound great. The promoter also confirmed that the fight would be Bellew’s last fight, confirming prior statements made by Bellew.

“With the Bellew fight, I honestly don’t like the Bellew fight, but like Tony Bellew has carved out a career for himself. He’s made a lot of money and the Usyk fight is brutal because I know Tony Bellew will fight that fight… This will be Tony Bellew’s last fight. He’s going for absolute glory in this fight and if he does, he goes down as a pound-for-pound great,” Hearn said.

The fight would be Bellew’s first as a cruiserweight since 2016 when he defeated BJ Flores to retain his WBC cruiserweight title.
