E-Sport Is The Future, But Why?

f there are still parents who think playing games is a waste of time, maybe you should learn a lot about the world of video games. Playing games is no longer a matter of wasting time and disrupting school schedules. Still, gaming has turned into a new industry that has the potential to generate a lucrative income.

Seeing this potential, many schools worldwide have a broad view of creating superior seeds that will become players needed in the electronic sport or esports industry.

In addition to having a fostered program at the schools to accept students who want to become Esports athletes, they also have several other fostered programs in the game industry, namely game creation programs, game professional athlete nursery to media and broadcasting that specifically creates game content.

Knowing The History

All great things must start from small. Well, including the issue of e-Sports, which is now called “big” and its development is still racing. We may agree that something must’ve grown from something small into something people really know about, like the online casino brand Nutz, for example.

There are some variations about the E-Sport history that we can tell you.

Before entering the birth of E-Sport, let us take a look at the older gaming competitions held back in the days, in the 70s to be exact.

You could say Stanford University students were the very first E-Sport gamers that the world ever knew. Without them, there would be no E-Sport competitions as we know them today.

Why? Because of them, the first competition where players fought each other in a video game began in October 1972.

At that time, Stanford students were battling each other in the Spacewar game to win a one-year free Rolling Stone magazine subscription. Yes, the prize was much humble back then.

However, Spacewar is a video game developed by none other than Steve Russel, along with the academics and scientists of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The game itself was created in 1962. At that time, video games from the 50s also started growing, like Tennis For Two or Pong in the early 70s. But, these are mostly single-player games.

Then, the development grew even more rapidly in the 1990s, and this was heavily supported by the fast-growing PC industry, which began to develop. Games on PCs had also started to advance because the development of the internet assisted it.

The Future of E-Sport

South Korea is the birthplace of modern eSports because they have incredible internet speeds and make internet cafes and game centers thrive there.

The eSports tournament, which was broadcast for the first time on television stations, also came from South Korea, with the RTS game StarCraft: Blood War being the most popular game to compete in.

As an example of how fast eSports is growing, the MLG Spring Tournament audience in 2012 reached 4 million viewers worldwide, and that number already surpassed the NBA All-Stars Game audience in 2012.

And one of the most popular games to compete in is the Dota 2 game, a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game that has attracted tens of millions of viewers from all over the Earth.

The Dota 2 game is now an eSports with the largest total prize in history, which has reached 22 million dollars at this time for The International 8 event, which is about to start.

At The International 6, the number of spectators throughout the tournament reached 20 million people. With the exponentially increasing popularity that grows better each year, it suffices to say that E-Sport will have a bright future not only for athletes but also for gamers in general.
