Dina Thorslund Retains WBO Female Super Bantamweight Title On Boxing Card In Denmark
Amanda Serrano was not the only woman to win a world title fight this past weekend as Dina Thorslund made her first successful world title defense.
Battling a cut late in her fight against Alesia Gref on a boxing card in Denmark, Thorslund was able to cruise to a unanimous decision win. Thorslund retained her WBO Female super bantamweight title by a wide margin with two judges scoring the bout 100-90 and the third judge scoring it 99-90, all in favor of the champion.
Thorslund, who won the title this past August, was able to dominate the title fight by pressuring Gref with heavy shots to the head. Thorslund also managed to land several body shots in the early rounds, but an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round caused a cut above Thorslund’s left eye. Regardless, Thorslund was able to finish the fight and score the victory.
Also on the card, Spanish fighter Jesus Sanchez came from behind to score a fifth-round stoppage victory over Dennis Ceylan to win the vacant EBU European Union featherweight title. Sanchez got the stoppage although he had been down on the scorecards after four rounds as all three judges had Ceylan winning 39-37 at the time of the stoppage.
The two previously fought in March 2018 with Sanchez knocking out Ceylan in the second round. Prior to the rematch, Ceylan stated that a second loss to Sanchez could spell the end of his career.
Former European super middleweight champion Lolenga Mock may have had his final fight after his loss to Mateo Damian Veron. The 46-year-old Mock lost a unanimous decision to Veron (78-74, 78-74, 78-74) and has now lost two straight fights after enjoying an 11-fight win streak.
