Diego De La Hoya To Headline December 14 ESPN Card

Scoring a victory on the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view card has landed a television main event fight for rising super bantamweight contender Diego De La Hoya.

De La Hoya, cousin to Golden Boy Promotions founder and former world champion Oscar De La Hoya, will be fighting Jose Salgado in the main event of a Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN card on December 14. The fight will take place at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. In the press release, Diego De La Hoya said he’s excited to end the year on a high note.

“I’d like to thank Golden Boy Promotions and my manager once again for keeping me busy with this final fight of 2017. It’ll be my fifth fight this year and my team and I feel confident in my progression. I’m looking forward to closing the year off at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and on ESPN. I anticipate 2018 to be even greater!”

Diego De La Hoya last fought on September 16 as one of the undercard fights on the Golovkin vs. Canelo pay-per-view, beating Randy Caballero via unanimous decision, leaving the night as the NABF and WBO-NABO super bantamweight title. The undefeated De La Hoya is also a former WBC Youth world champion.

Salgado is 35-4-2 as a professional boxer and has fought prominent names such as Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Carlos Cuadras in the past few years. Salgado, a former regional champion in his own right, has only won two fights since the start of 2014.
