Dereck Chisora Signs With Matchroom Boxing, Has A Title Match Set For November
Former heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora not only has his next couple of fights booked, but a new promoter to work with.
Chisora signed with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing and is set to fight on September 30 against an opponent to be determined in a six-round bout on the undercard of the Paul Butler-Stuart Hall bantamweight world title eliminator at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
The plan for Chisora is to fight in that quick bout on September 30 card and then challenge European heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel in November. No specific date or other details about the fight against Kabayel have been made public.
"I'm looking forward to getting back in the ring after a frustrating period of injury, starting in Liverpool next Saturday," Chisora told ESPN when the announcement was made. "Then we are going to win the European title in November, and then I'm going to punish that punk Dillian Whyte [in rematch] and move on to a shot at the world title."
Chisora last fought in December 2016 when he lost to Dillian Whyte via split decision. That particular fight's buildup is probably best known for an incident where Chisora threw a table at Whyte.
Chisora is a former European champion as well as a former WBA and WBO International heavyweight champion. Chisora challenged Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title in 2012 but lost in a lopsided decision. The 33-year-old, who turns 34 in December, has a 2-2 record in fights since the start of 2016. Overall, Chisora sports a 26-7 record with 18 KO.
