Danny Garcia vs. Adrian Granados To Be For WBC Silver Welterweight Title

The April 20 PBC on Fox card featuring former world champion Danny Garcia has some added stakes to its main event.

The WBC recently announced that the fight between Garcia and Adrian Granados will be for the vacant Silver welterweight title. The card will take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park from Carson, California.

While the WBC Silver title does not mean the winner will get an automatic shot at the world title, given that both boxers are ranked in the top 10 (Garcia at No. 1 and Granados at No. 10), the winner will be in a strong position to get a title opportunity. The current WBC welterweight champion is Shawn Porter, who recently defended his title with a split decision win against Yordenis Ugas. Porter won the title with a close decision victory over Garcia in Brooklyn back in September 2018.

Garcia, a two-division world champion, sports a 1-2 record in his last three fights with one of those fights being a welterweight title unification against Keith Thurman.

This isn’t the first time that Granados has fought for the WBC Silver title. Back in November 2017, Granados lost a unanimous decision to Porter with the Silver title on the line. Granados sports a 2-2 record with one no contest in his last five fights.

The Fox card will feature a heavyweight matchup between former world title challenger Andy Ruiz Jr. and Alexander Dimitrenko as well as an interim WBA super bantamweight title fight. The super bantamweight title fight will see Brandon Figueroa face off against Yonfrez Parejo.
