Daniel Dubois Will Face Joe Joyce If He Wins Next Fight Says Promoter

Daniel Dubois has been slowly climbing the heavyweight ladder, but could have a potentially big 2019. All he has to do is win his next fight.

Dubois has been ordered by the British Boxing Board of Control to face off against Joe Joyce for the vacant British title. The fight would pit two of the top British heavyweight prospects, but at this point, the fight only stands a shot of happening if Dubois can defeat Richard Lartey next. Dubois will face Lartey on April 27 at Wembley Arena and according to promoter Frank Warren, if Dubois wins his next fight, then he’ll fight Joyce.

“Daniel Dubois has got a really tough fight against Richard Lartey up next at Wembley. Lartey is well ranked, 14-1 and the one he lost was because of an injury. I want Daniel to focus on that, but once he comes through that, there’s no way we’re pulling him out of the fight with Joe Joyce,” Warren wrote.

A fight against Joyce isn’t the only big matchup in store for Dubois this year. Warren also said there is also a potential fight against fellow unbeaten fighter Nathan Gorman down the road.

“We said the Nathan Gorman fight would happen at the end of the year and that’s still going to happen. I’ve spoken to Daniel and his coach, Martin Bowers, and they want to fight Joyce, but I don’t want him overlooking Lartey. The British Boxing Board of Control have ordered it, so it’ll be next if he comes through Lartey, then Gorman later this year. It could be an incredible year for our young heavyweights,” Warren added.

Warren’s column, where he also defended the Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz matchup taking place this summer, can be read at this link.
