Daniel Dubois Captures British Heavyweight Title With Knockout Win Over Nathan Gorman
Daniel Dubois took another big step in his career with perhaps his most complete performance yet.
In a battle of two of Britain’s top heavyweight prospects, Dubois dominated Nathan Gorman in five rounds to capture the vacant British heavyweight title. The fight headlined a Queensberry Promotions card from The O2 in London that was streamed on ESPN+ in the United States.
Both men started off with a solid exchange of punches with Dubois becoming more aggressive and outlanding Gorman in the opening round. The tide really started to turn in Dubois’ favor after landing a punch that caused a cut above Gorman’s left eye.
Early in the third round, Dubois connected with a clubbing right hand that dropped Gorman, but after Gorman got back up, the two fighters briefly traded heavy punches as Gorman tried to slow down Dubois’ momentum. Dubois kept landing the right hand and was working the jab well from that point forward. Gorman wasn’t too far behind and he did manage to connect on two solid uppercuts in the fourth round that split Dubois’ guard, but it wasn’t nearly enough to hurt him.

It was another right hand that dropped Gorman late in the fifth round after another impressive start to the round by Dubois. Although Gorman was able to barely beat the 10-count, he was slow to get back up and the referee stopped the contest, awarding the win to Dubois.

Dubois has captured a number of titles throughout his young pro career, but his British title is arguably his most significant. After wins over Kevin Johnson, Razvan Cojanu, Richard Lartey and now Gorman in the last 10 months, Dubois will look to move into world title contention in the near future. Entering the fight, Dubois, who now has a 12-0 record with 11 knockout wins, was ranked No. 11 by the WBO, who heavyweight title is currently being held by Andy Ruiz Jr.
