Could More Celebrities Line Up For the Squared Circle?
Celebrity entanglements with the WWE aren’t anything new. Floyd Mayweather, Tyson Fury, Johnny Knoxville, Mr. T, and even Snooki have all fought in a WWE match, and at WrestleMania 39, there were celebrities all over the place. Becky G, Snoop Dogg, Kevin Hart, Bad Bunny, George Kittle, and Lil Uzi Vert all played a part in the biggest event on the pro wrestling calendar.
The idea of celebrity involvement to boost engagement and even bring celebrities in as full-time pro wrestlers looks to be gaining momentum right now. So, looking at past interactions and an apparent affinity for the company, these are the names looking primed to eventually enter the square circle and compete in a WWE match.
Kevin Hart
Having featured in a whole host of Hollywood films, including Ride Along, Think Like a Man Too, Get Hard, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (alongside WWE legend Dwayne Johnson), and The Secret Life of Pets, Kevin Hart is a bona fide star. Of course, the makings of his career were his stand-up comedy shows, which helped to forge a charismatic, quick-witted, and loveable character in the spotlight.
In 2014, he came to Monday Night Raw as the host, and even enjoyed a quick run in the ring before falling back onto the crowd to get carried away. For WrestleMania 39, he lent himself to the cold open having touched base with the WWE in the summer of 2022. In an interview with Becky Lynch to promote the film Me Time, Hart and co-star Mark Wahlberg discussed being a tag team in the WWE, with Hart calling himself “Little Lightning“.
Mark Wahlberg
Another Hollywood superstar, Mark Wahlberg, has been around a lot longer than Hart. Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Yards, Planet of the Apes, Four Brothers, and We Own the Night cemented him as a force on the big screen, and then came his comedy turn. After The Other Guys came the much-loved Ted, which remains immensely popular to this day. In fact, it’s the only one of his movies that’s become a hit Jackpot King game, with two Ted slots featuring alongside the likes of the Rick and Morty: Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!! and Worms Reloaded games.
His ties to the WWE go way back, too. You can still find his RAW interview for The Other Guys with Will Ferrell, in which the two revert to their movie characters when the Bellas visit them. More recently, promoting Spenser Confidential, he advised AJ Styles not to take on The Undertaker, and he did the opening feature for WrestleMania 38. Should he make an appearance, he’d perhaps be the biggest non-sporting star to fight in the WWE. He’s got the hook-up, having starred in movies with John Cena and Ronda Rousey in the past.
Cardi B
Stepping away from the acting scene a little, repeat interactions with WWE superstars and clear-cut evidence of wrestling fandom have landed Cardi B squarely in the sights of fans. She’s done a bit of acting before in F9: The Fast Saga and Hustlers, but it was her reaction to getting mentioned at WWE Raw and subsequent recount of watching Booker T, Eddie Guerrero, Triple H, Batista, John Cena, Edge, Melina, Trish Stratus, and Lina in 2021 that whipped up rumors.
Since, the likes of Alexa Bliss have said she’d be a good superstar, and the rapper referenced Jimmy Snuka in a 2022 single, leading to the legend’s daughter, Tamina, to offer to train Cardi B. In Stratus’ return to WWE Raw, the hit-maker took to Twitter to reveal her surprise at Trish and Lita entering the ring. It’s pretty clear that Cardi B is a fan, and people would love to see her battle it out in the square circle.
Hart, Wahlberg, or Cardi B would make for huge additions to the schedule, even if for one night only. This is especially true if Hard and Wahlberg were to get that dream tag team match.
