Cesar Juarez Upset At Referee Tony Weeks For Stopping Title Match

Despite getting knocked down in the second and fifth round, Cesar Juarez is upset at how his WBO interim super bantamweight title match ended.

Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Juarez detailed why he is mad at how his title match against Isaac Dogboe ended abruptly. Juarez was knocked down in the fifth round, but instead of getting a 10-count, referee Tony Weeks stopped the contest immediately, giving Dogboe the win and the title by TKO.

"The truth is I'm really mad. That fight was mine, Dogboe didn't beat. The one who robbed me and beat was Tony, who's a professional referee but what happened was poor professional ethics. He should have given me the 10-count, I stood up well. He knocked me down in the [second] round and he hit me harder then, the punch was much stronger, but you know me. I always get knocked down and I always get back up to win. The fight was badly stopped…It's happened with Albert Pagara, Nonito Donaire and in all my fights where I've been knocked down and I always get back up to win. Besides, I was already dominating Isaac Dogboe," Juarez said.

Juarez was put in the interim title fight after his fight against WBO super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno this past November was canceled due to a wrist injury Magdaleno suffered. The loss snapped Juarez's three-fight win streak after losing two fights in a row, including a loss to Donaire in 2015.

Juarez also said he would like to file a formal protest of the result to the WBO in the hopes that a rematch is issued.
