Cecilia Braekhus To Defend Undisputed Welterweight Title Against Victoria Bustos In November
Fresh off the announcement that she signed with Matchroom Boxing, undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus has her first fight set.
Matchroom Boxing unveiled several fights that will take place on the November 30 card from Monaco, including Braekhus’ next title defense. Braekhus will defend her unified WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF and IBO titles against mandatory challenger Victoria Bustos.
Braekhus has been inactive in the ring ever since she headlined HBO’s last-ever boxing telecast back in December 2018, beating Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes by unanimous decision. Braekhus has been the undisputed champion since 2014 when she defeated then-IBF champion Ivana Habazin to unify the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF titles and has been a world champion since 2009, never losing a fight throughout her career.
Also announced for the card is Alexander Besputin vs. Radzhab Butaev for the vacant WBA “Regular” welterweight title. The fight was made as a result of Matchroom Boxing winning a purse bid due to win the rights to stage the fight in Monaco.
Besputin has won all 13 fights as a pro since making his debut back in 2015. Besputin, who was also a decorated amateur from Russia, has not fought since a unanimous decision victory over Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco back in April. Butaev, also an unbeaten fighter, has never fought past the eighth round. Butaev is also coming off a unanimous decision win in his last fight, this time against Silverio Ortiz back in May.
Other fights announced are Zhilei Zhang vs. Sergey Kuzmin in a heavyweight bout, Joe Cordina vs. Enrique Tinoco and former world title challenger Hughie Fury taking on an opponent to be named at a later date.
