CBC Announces Worldwide Broadcast Of Kosei Tanaka vs. Ryoichi Taguchi
Kosei Tanaka’s first flyweight world title defense will be viewable from anywhere around the world
CBC Television, in association with AsianBoxing.info, announced that it will have a free global stream for Tanaka’s WBO flyweight title fight against former world champion Ryoichi Taguchi on March 16. The stream is scheduled to start at 16:00 JST, which means 3 a.m. ET. For those in Japan, the program will be available on TBS Network 28 channels.
The stream won’t just feature the main event, but also stream several undercard bouts. Kento Hatanaka will face Songsaeng Phoyaem for the WBC Youth World flyweight title and Konshin Takeshima will face Jian Wang. According to the announcement, also on the card is former Japanese Youth champion Takuya Mizuno in action.
This isn’t the first time that CBC and AsianBoxing.info have been involved with broadcasting a high-profile Japanese boxing fight. They also had a free, global stream of Tanaka’s WBO flyweight title win against Sho Kimura last September, a fight that ultimately ended up winning Fightful Boxing’s “Fight of the Year” award for 2018.
Tanaka, a 23-year-old fighter who has already won world titles in three weight classes, has won all 12 of his pro bouts with seven of those wins coming from inside the distance. Tanaka has won the WBO world titles at minimumweight, light flyweight and flyweight.
Taguchi was a former unified light flyweight champion who lost the WBA and IBF titles this past May when he lost a unanimous decision to Hekkie Budler. Taguchi held the WBA title from 2014 to 2018 and moved up in weight in an effort to become a two-division champion.
