Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Preview
One of the biggest all-Mexican boxing fights in the history of the sport is set to take place in Las Vegas on May 6. Canelo Alvarez, one of the brightest young stars in the sport today squares off against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a former world champion and the son of six-time world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
Below is the review for Canelo vs. Chavez Jr.
What’s at stake:
Pride. No world titles. No title opportunities. Just pride and bragging rights on who is the best boxer in Mexico. That pride alone is almost worth any world title that would be on the line. Canelo is trying to further cement himself as, not just the face of Mexican boxing, but the face of boxing itself.
For Chavez, it’s all about legitimizing his career and being his own star, no longer needing the legacy his legendary father has built throughout his storied career. It is another chance for Chavez to get back to the top. It is the biggest fight of his career since losing the world middleweight title to Sergio Martinez in 2012.
