The rematch one year in the making has arrived and Fightful has live coverage of the entire Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 2 card. After months of anticipation, boxing fans will be treated to one of the best boxing cards in the United States of 2018 on paper. With the return of “Chocolatito,” a grudge match between David Lemieux and Gary O’Sullivan and two world title fights, tonight could prove to be an unforgettable night of boxing.

Fightful will provide quick results of the prelim card, which can be viewed on FITE TV for free. As for the pay-per-view card, Fightful will provide detailed recaps of the non-title fights and full round-by-round recaps of the two world title fights.

After the main event concludes, Fightful will have a live post-show hosted by Fightful managing editor Sean Ross Sapp and lead boxing reporter Carlos Toro.

  • Canelo Alvarez defeated Gennady Golovkin by majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 115-113) to win the unified WBA “Super,” WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine middleweight titles

MAIN CARD

Roman Gonzalez vs. Moises Fuentes: Gonzalez looked solid starting off, but it became apparent from the start that he is not the legendary fighter that he was prior to his two losses to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. In the first round, Gonzalez simply went through the motions, but starting the second round, the four-division champion started to pick up the pace. Fuentes got cut under the right eyelid in the second round and started to bleed a lot around the right eye. Gonzalez places a well-time right hook to Fuentes’ jaw and Fuentes is knocked out. Gonzalez shook off the ring rust well and Fuentes was the perfect first opponent back after not competing for a full year.

Official Result: Roman Gonzalez defeated Moises Fuentes by TKO, round 5, 1:44

Gary O’Sullivan vs. David Lemieux: Quick knockout win for Lemieux as he landed a sensational counter left hook to O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan looked dazed and confused and the referee had to stop the fight. With the win, Lemieux now becomes the mandatory challenger to the WBA “super” middleweight title that Gennady Golovkin owns and will defend in the main event tonight.

Jaime Munguia (c) vs. Brandon Cook: WBO Junior Middleweight Title

Round 1: Munguia starts jabbing at Cook, chasing him around the ring. Cook lands a 1-2 jab combination. Both men trade jabs and then Munguia misses with a wide right hand, allowing Cook to land a short uppercut. Munguia landed another right jab and Cook lands a left hook to the body. Munguia landed a series of power punches to the body to end the round, nearly stopping Cook.

Round 2: Munguia continues to land several big jabs to Cook, who is starting to go to the ropes. Munguia keeps landing the right jab and left hook to the body. Cook landed a right hand upstairs. Munguia lands a big left hook to the body and both men clinch. Munguia landed another series of punches to hurt Cook at the end of the round.

Round 3: Cook starts throwing hooks to the body, but Munguia is unaffected by them. Munguia knocks down Cook, but Munguia continues dominating until Tony Weeks puts a stop to the contest.

Round 1: Golovkin starts off with a jab and Canelo tries to go for the left hook. Canelo lands a right hook to the body. Golovkin lands another jab upstairs. Canelo and Golovkin connect with two jabs and the first round now turns into a battle of the jab. Canelo lands a jab, but misses with the left uppercut. Golovkin connects with three straight left jabs. Canelo lands a counter left hook to Golovkin’s jaw.

Round 2: Golovkin and Canelo continue trading jabs with Golovkin barely getting the better of the exchange. Canelo lands a hard left hook to Golovkin’s chin, the hardest punch of the fight thus far. Canelo lands a big right hand, but Golovkin lands a solid body shot. Both men connect with left hands simultaneously. Canelo’s hooks are starting to land better in this round compared to the first. Canelo lands another body shot at the end of the round.

Round 3: Golovkin landed a short right uppercut. Canelo lands another body shot, but Golovkin responds with multiple uppercuts. Golovkin misses with the right hand. Canelo and Golovkin trade jabs in the center of the ring. Golovkin lands a big right hand to Canelo, but Canelo does not appear to be hurt from it. Golovkin is having better luck connecting with the left hook. Canelo landed another hook to the body.

Round 4: Golovkin landed another left hook and Canelo keeps fighting forward, looking to attack the body. Golovkin lands a major left hook upstairs and is keen on continuing the head hunting and not focus much on attacking the body. Canelo lands another body shot to Golovkin, who is breathing with his mouth open already.

Round 5: Golovkin works the jab and mixing things up. Canelo lands two straight left hooks to the body and Golovkin landed a short uppercut. Canelo connects with a right jab to Golovkin’s chin. Canelo throws another left hook, but Golovkin blocks it. Canelo landed another jab that splits Golovkin’s defense. Canelo and Golovkin trade shots towards the end of the round.

Round 6: Canelo connects with a left uppercut to the body and Golovkin continues to work using his jab. Canelo throws two straight jabs. Both men exchange short left hooks to the body. Canelo misses with the left uppercut, but Canelo has a solid flurry of punches towards the end of the round.

Round 7: Canelo lands another couple of uppercuts and then throws a left hook. Canelo is looking to score a knockdown with the left hand while Golovkin continues to utilize the jab. Both men exchange jabs halfway through the round. Golovkin lands a left hook to Canelo. Golovkin then throws a three-punch combo, but Canelo blocks it. Golovkin landed an uppercut and then a series of punches at the end of the round.

Round 8: Canelo is coming forward and landing more left hooks. Golovkin lands a quick counter right hook, followed by a jab. Both trade left hooks once more. Canelo punishes Golovkin’s body with three straight left uppercuts. Canelo lands a right jab to the side of Golovkin’s head. The two boxers land a right hand and then Canelo lands a hard left hook. Canelo lands a right uppercut.

Round 9: Canelo landed more punches to start the round. Canelo lands a left hook and Golovkin lands one as well. Both men are trading shots, looking for a knockout punch. Canelo lands a left jab that splits Golovkin’s guard. Canelo sneaks in a short right uppercut. Golovkin is throwing a three-punch combo, but they don’t have a lot of power behind it. Canelo continues pressing forward, landing a right hand. Golovkin working his way back up, targeting the cut above Canelo’s left eye.

Golovkin blocks a body shot from Canelo. Canelo lands a solid right hook to Golovkin’s chin. Golovkin lands a counter left hook upstairs. Canelo lands another right hand.

Round 12: Golovkin stuns Canelo with a big right hand and then lands a massive uppercut. Golovkin is telling Canelo that he’s not afraid to take his punches. Golovkin keeps throwing more and more punches as Canelo is starting to look a bit sluggish. Both men clinch, a rare sight in this fight. Golovkin lands another left jab. Both fighters continue to trade punches, with Canelo landing a left hook upstairs. Golovkin is cut above the right eye and the two middleweight superstars trade punches until the end of the fight.
