Brandon Figueroa vs. Javier Chacon Averages 345,000 Viewers On FS1

Brandon Figueroa’s first fight as the interim WBA super bantamweight champion saw an increase in viewership from PBC’s last show on FS1.

The August 24 PBC on FS1 show averaged 345,000 viewers (129,000 in the 18-49 demographic) and drew a 0.21 household rating and a 0.10 rating the 18-49 demo, good for 69th on cable for the day. The event took place in Edinburg, Texas, just 30 minutes away from Figueroa’s hometown of Weslaco.

The viewership and ratings for the August 24 card were higher than PBC’s last card on FS1, which was on July 13 and headlined by Jamal James vs. Antonio DeMarco. The July 13 show averaged 234,000 viewers and drew a 0.05 rating in the 18-49 demo, good for 140th on cable for the entire day.

Figueroa dominated Chacon with a series of body shots being thrown throughout the entire fight, which did not see four complete rounds. Figueroa dropped Chacon in the fourth round and Chacon was unable to get back up and was counted out, giving Figueroa his first title defense since winning the belt in California back in April. Also on the card was IBO super bantamweight titleholder Stephen Fulton knocking out Isaac Avelar in the sixth round.

Fightful got to speak with Figueroa before the fight to preview the bout against Chacon, the state of the super bantamweight division and fighting for a world title in 2020. The full interview can be heard from the August 16 Fightful Boxing Podcast at this link starting at around the 45:40 mark.
