Saunders joins a Matchroom Boxing roster that also features WBA “Super” champion Callum Smith and interim WBA titleholder John Ryder, potentially opening the way for a future title unification. But Saunders is targeting other big names for his fights, such as Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, both men Saunders had gone public with his intent on facing them down the line for years. Saunders also stated his interest in facing former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in the future as Jacobs is mulling a potential move up in weight.

Prior to joining Matchroom, Saunders was promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions before the two sides had an amicable split, meaning Saunders was a promotional free agent. While a part of Queensberry Promotions, Saunders won the WBO world titles at middleweight and super middleweight and unbeaten in 28 pro bouts since his debut in 2009. In his last fight this past April, Saunders captured the WBO super middleweight title with a 12-round decision win against Shefat Isufi.
