BBBofC Orders Joe Joyce vs Daniel Dubois For Vacant British Title
A week after the British Boxing Board of Control announced that Hughie Fury vacated his heavyweight title, the organization announced the two fighters it has ordered to fight for the vacant title.
The BBBofC revealed that Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois have been ordered to fight for the belt with a purse bid date of April 10 being set in case the two fighters do not agree to a deal. A fight between the two of them must take place before the end of July, per the order of the BBBofC.
The news comes after Fury vacated the title due to injury. Fury has not fought since losing an IBF heavyweight title eliminator against Kubrat Pulev last October in Bulgaria.
A fight between Joyce and Dubois would pit two of the United Kingdom’s top rising heavyweight stars against each other. Joyce got a major win in February when he defeated former world champion Bermane Stiverne to win the newly-created WBA Gold title. The fight took place on the undercard of a PBC card from the United Kingdom headlined by James DeGale vs. Chris Eubank Jr. Joyce, also ranked No. 15 by the WBC, has won all eight of his pro fights, capturing the Commonwealth and WBA Continental titles.
Dubois just recently made his debut in the WBO heavyweight rankings, coming in at No. 13. Like Joyce, Dubois has won all of his pro bouts and is coming off a second-round knockout win over Razvan Cojanu on March 8 to win the WBO European title.
