Badou Jack Is The New WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion
History was made in the second fight of the Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view card as badou Jack defeated Nathan Cleverly by 5th round TKO to win the WBA World Light Heavyweight Title.
The fight was Jack’s light heavyweight division debut and the first time that Cleverly has competed in Las Vegas. Jack dominated Cleverly from the opening round on, but Cleverly seemed out of answers for Jack’s attack before the referee jumped in.
Fightful’s Carlos Toro is providing live coverage of the event, here are the highlights from round five:
Round 5: Jack pressures Cleverly with a lot of hard uppercuts and Cleverly is forced to defend with no opportunity to counter. Cleverly continues to bleed while he´s getting hit. Cleverly lands a jab, but then gets hit immediately with two jabs from Jack. Jack rocks Cleverly with the left hand that has been exceptional all fight long. Cleverly is on the ropes and constantly getting hit left and right to the body. Jack obliterates Cleverly for almost a minute and the referee stops the fight and Jack is a world champion once more.
Official result: Badou Jack defeated Nathan Cleverly via TKO, round 6, 2:47, to win the WBA "Regular" Light Heavyweight Title
This was the first title change on the card because Andrew Tabiti retained the NABF Cruiserweight Title in the pay-per-view opener.
