Anthony Joshua vs. Carlos Takam Ratings Are In
Anthony Joshua's latest fight brought about a relatively low rating for the Unites States-based Showtime broadcast.
According to Showbuzz Daily, Joshua's October 28 win over Carlos Takam drew approximately 334,000 viewers and a 0.13 household rating. The fight was shown live in the early evening of October 28 and had to contend with the endings of FOX's college football telecast of Penn State vs. Ohio State (averaged 9.868 million viewers) and CBS's college football telecast of Georgia vs. Florida (3.38 million viewers). There were several other college football games occurring at the same time, which split viewership and stopped Showtime from attracting a larger audience for the fight.
This was Joshua's second straight fight to be shown live on Showtime. Joshua's last fight, a fight of the year candidate in which Joshua defeated Wladimir Klitschko in April, drew about 659,000 viewers on Showtime.
Despite the low viewership in the United States, the fight was an unprecedented success in the United Kingdom. The fight, which took place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, drew about 78,000 people, making it the largest boxing attendance at an indoor venue in the sport's history and it is expected to be a major U.K. pay-per-view seller. Joshua's fight versus Klitschko in April broke the British boxing attendance record with 90,000 people filling Wembley Stadium.
