Anthony Joshua Sends Message To Deontay Wilder: “I’ll Give You The Chance At Four Belts”
Anthony Joshua is making another attempt to get WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder to jump on board and have a heavyweight superfight in 2019.
Joshua, the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion, traveled to New York to be in attendance for Canelo Alvarez‘s third-round victory over Rocky Fielding on DAZN. Joshua did commentary for the first four rounds of the Tevin Farmer vs. Francisco Fonseca co-main event fight and was also interviewed on the DAZN broadcast about a potential fight against Wilder.
The British champion said he invites Wilder to fight him at Wembley Stadium on April 13, 2019 when Joshua’s next fight is scheduled to take place. Joshua added that he’s still young and is not sure how long Wilder has left on top of the mountain after fighting more than 40 pro bouts.
“April 13th, at Wembley, come see me, we’ll get a deal done, I’ll pay you way more than you’ve ever earned before, I’ll give you the chance at four belts. What more can you want?… I’ve still got another ten years in me, I’m 29, 30 next year. I’m still fresh. I’m just looking forward to cementing my legacy for the long run. How long has [Wilder] got left? That’s why for him, it should be more important for him to fight me now, than later,” Joshua said.
Wilder is coming off a split draw against Tyson Fury on December 1 in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view in Los Angeles. Wilder and Fury expressed their desire for a rematch with the WBC giving a rematch a blessing, opening the door for another battle between the two.
