Anthony Crolla: People Aren’t Giving Me A Chance Against Vasiliy Lomachenko
Anthony Crolla has worked his way back to another lightweight title shot, but he faces a very tall order when he faces Vasiliy Lomachenko.
The British contender will face Lomachenko for the WBA and WBO world titles on April 13 and many are picking Lomachenko to win the fight with some saying the unified champion will defeat Crolla fairly easily. Crolla has heard all the chatter and understands he’s not looked favorably in this fight, but still hopes to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the year.
“People aren’t giving me a chance, but that doesn’t matter to me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The motivation to me is attaching my name to one of the biggest upsets in British boxing history, without a doubt, and I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn there. As a boxing fan and someone that lives and breathes the sport, that’s all the motivation I need. I’ve been the underdog all throughout my career and I know that this is by far the biggest challenge I’ve faced, but it’s one I can’t wait to get stuck into,” Crolla said.
Crolla is a former WBA lightweight champion and has won his last three fights, becoming the mandatory challenger in the process. Crolla held the WBA title from 2015 to 2016, losing the belt to Jorge Linares, who would go on and lose the title to Lomachenko in May 2018.
Lomachenko vs. Crolla will headline a Top Rank on ESPN+ card from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
